Inauguration of the Ukrainian MEPA

In Odessa, the city with strong historic and commercial bonds with Greece, the Ukrainian Marine Environment Protection Association - UKRMEPA was established on Monday, 17 December 2007. Prof. Ι. Pupenko, Rector of the Odessa Institute of Postgraduate Education of Senior Managers of Water Transport, Prof. V. Torskiy, Honorary Secretary of the Nautical Institute of Ukraine, V. Lebedev, Expert - Consultant of the Law Firm "International Law Offices", V. Chikanosvkiy, President of the Ukrainian Branch of the International Scientific Academy of Ecology, Human Safety and Environment Protection and A. Sagaydak, CEO of Equinox Ltd, cosigned the Inaugural Declaration of UKRMEPA. Titled "To Save the Seas", the Declaration of Voluntary Commitment of the new Association is based on the principles and philosophy of the Inaugural Declaration of HELMEPA.

Will take place on the 15th-16th of November, 2007 in Odessa. The summit is timed for the opening of the new container terminal in the Trade Sea Port of Ilyichevsk on the 16th of November. Can governments in partnership with the private sector and non-profit organisations promote sustainable development? This is the primary question of the project led by United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. International law offices in the person of Partner Arthur Nitsevych is engaged by the project as a Ukrainian expert in the field of PPP. This research is examining whether, and under what conditions, Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) can be conceived to include criteria for peace and sustainable development. This would include considerations for sustainable management of resources, equitable access to these resources for both women and men affected by the PPPs, as well as their safety, the security in the region, and the protection of infrastructure.
