The Fifth Annual International Conference “Practice of Maritime Business: Sharing Experience”
The Fifth Annual International conference “Practice of Maritime business: sharing experience: “Bill of Lading in Progress” took place in Odessa, Ukraine in Grand Pettine Hotel on May 28-29.
It gathered about 80 delegates from 12 countries. The subject of the conference was focused on peculiarities of Ukrainian and international practice of one of the most important documents of maritime business, namely, Bill of Lading. The event was organized by “International Law Offices” (Ukraine) and “Law Firm Remedy” (Russia) with the support VARAMAR (Ukraine) and ROSSGOSTRAKH (Russia).
The conference attracted speakers from seven countries of Europe. Special attention was paid to the talk of the First Deputy Head of Odessa Commercial Sea Port Yury Vaskov who reported on “The Fourth Function of the Bill of Lading”. He emphasized the national requirements towards circulation of the Bill of Lading in relation to the customs clearance of cargoes in Ukraine and explained the reasons why the local practice differs so much from international regulations and practice.

Her practice focuses on commercial and corporate law issues, project finance, real estate and construction.
On 16 December in the conference hall of the Association of Ports of Ukraine “Ukrport” a round table-workshop took place FORWARDERS LIABILITY FOR SAFETY OF GENERAL AND CONTAINER CARGOES DURING HANDLING IN UKRAINE
The event was organized by the Law Firm INTERNATIONAL LAW OFFICES with the support of:
- Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine (ÀIFFU)
- Association of Freight Forwarding Organizations of Ukraine "Ukrvneshtrans”
- Association of Ports of Ukraine “Ukrport”
There were present directors and representatives of the companies performing forwarding activity in the ports of Ukraine, lawyers, insurers, surveyors and representatives of the Ukrainian ports.
The goal of the round table–workshop was to discuss problematic issues connected with forwarder’s liability, its grounds, types and limits; to define the role and importance of the insurance of the forwarder’s liability, necessity of the surveyor’s participation in transportation; how to determine and limit the forwarder’s liability at the stage of the contract concluding with the client, on necessity of the contract’s due diligence; the role of arbitration clause in the contract, its wording and meaning.

II-nd conference "Law Firm Management"

3-4 December 2 conference of IBA took place in the hotel “Renaissance”, Moscow.
The organizers of the events were Law Firm Management Committee, European Forum of the International Bar Association together with LegalStudies.RU.
This year once again two representatives of the law firm INTERNATIONAL LAW OFFICES Natalya Shpak and Olena Losevska participated in the present conference.
On October 10, 2008 International Conference «Doing business in Ukraine: Odessa and Odessa region» took place in Odessa, Londonskaya Hotel, with more than 60 delegates from 8 countriesgathered, investors, developers, experts in the sphere of real estate and construction, CEO and managers making key decisions.
The organizer of the conference was “International Law Offices”, Ukraine, under the support of the General Department of Foreign Activity and European Integration of Odessa Regional State Administration, Department of Recreational Complex and Tourism of the Odessa City Council, Southern Branch of the European Business Association and Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in Odessa.
The consultant of International Law Offices , Vyacheslav Lebedev, is appointed as the judge of the written part of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition at the stage of the national Ukrainian teams’ qualifying round.

Since 1 January of 2009 our partners, the company “Planeta Odessa” within the framework of the information resource “Rise: Maritime Law”, developed and revealed a new resource - the IMO document database.
The law firm International Law Offices became a contributor of the annual project of the professional investigative edition Doing Business 2009.
Doing Business 2009 is a joint publication of the group the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation and Palgrave Macmillan.
Doing Business 2009 is the sixth in a series of annual reports investigating the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. The present publication covers data on economies of 118 countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.
The publication presents 10 stages of the life of a business.
“BUSINESS IN UKRAINE” is the first brochure representing collected works of the authors of International Law Offices that opened series of the same name.
Publication was timed to the event organized by International Law Offices – the conference Doing Business in Ukraine: Odessa and Odessa region that was held in October of 2008.
Creators of the present publication are considerable composite authors of the firm that have done their best to consolidate the whole materials prepared and published in various Ukrainian and foreign editions during 2006-2008.
In 2008 International Law Offices made its contribution into the large-scale printing project Getting the Deal Through series, section Shipping, by publication of the information review on Ukraine in this professional edition that is one of the influential in Europe and in the world in publication of reviews on shipping.
